Breaking down on a road trip is a nightmare. Here is what to do if your car needs overnight repairs away from home.
Check Your Policy Allowance
Many comprehensive policies (and almost all specific Roadside Assist policies) include an "Emergency Accommodation" or "Onward Travel" allowance.
Check your policy PDS (Product Disclosure Statement) immediately.
- Accommodation: Usually covers $100-$200 per night for a motel if you are more than 100km from home.
- Rental Car: Some policies provide a rental car for up to 3 days while yours is repaired.
- Taxi/Rideshare: Covers the trip from the breakdown site to the accommodation.
What Drivon Can Do
If you are stranded:
- We can load your vehicle and transport you and your passengers (up to the legal seat limit of the tow truck) to a nearby motel or rental car depot.
- We will then take your vehicle to a secure storage yard or repairer.
- If the car cannot be fixed locally, ask about our Long-Haul Repatriation service to get your broken vehicle back to your home city later.
