Confused about the process when you break down? Knowing who to call first can save you time and money.
If You Have Roadside Assistance Policy
If you pay for a specific roadside assistance package (e.g., AA, State Roadside, AMI, or manufacturer assistance):
- Call Them First: They have specific dispatch networks. If you call a tow truck directly, your insurance provider may refuse to reimburse the cost because they didn't authorize the job.
- The Process: They will verify your membership and dispatch a provider (often us!) to you.
If You Have "Comprehensive" Insurance (But No Specific Roadside Add-on)
Standard car insurance usually covers accidents, not mechanical breakdowns.
- Mechanical Breakdown: You usually need to call a tow truck directly (Call Drivon). You will pay for the tow, but you might be able to claim it back later depending on your specific policy wording.
- Accident: Call your insurer immediately to lodge a claim. They will give you a claim number. Give this claim number to Drivon, and we can often bill the insurance company directly, meaning no upfront cost to you.
If You Have No Insurance
Call Drivon directly on 0800 374 866. We can provide an instant quote and get you moved. We accept credit cards and EFTPOS at the roadside.
